XBMC is an award-winning free and open source (GPL) software media player and entertainment hub for digital media. XBMC is available for Linux, OSX, Windows, and the original Xbox. Since Ubuntu 11.04 natty was released, the XBMC team not has any updates to make it can install from repository. If you want install XBMC (current version is 10.1) on Ubuntu 11.04 (it’s still works well on Natty), let’s follows steps below:
- Add Stable XBMC Team PPA in to Ubuntu Repository with
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:team-xbmc
- Don’t update Ubuntu sources list, you will get errors and can’t install xbmc, just go to Update Manager > Settings > Other Software then edit ppa:team-xbmc from natty to maverick because the current PPA of XBMC Team not has natty packages.
- Update the Ubuntu Repositories then install XBMC
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install xbmc
You can install XBMC on Ubuntu 11.04 too with Unstable of XMBC Team ppa:team-xbmc/unstable, but I’m not recommend you to do this, it’s has a lot of errors.
You can install another softwares like XBMC (in this time) on newest Ubuntu version.
