How to Transform GIMP layout look like Photoshop

GIMP’s default layout is a bit frustrating and a lot of people maybe used to using Adobe Photoshop and it’s layout. Like others, sometime I had confused with GIMP layout and can’t find the tools/brush/… as I want to use immediately. To help those who are used to Photoshop, +Martin Owens has created a collection of GIMP 2.8 tweaks that make it more like Adobe Photoshop and make people more comfortable.

The tweaks include Photoshop like toolbox icons, keyboard shortcuts, modified dockable dialogs and even a tweaked background color to match Photoshop.

Transform GIMP to Photoshop CS4 layout Tweaks

  • All you have to do is download GIMP 2.8 Tweaks file, unzip it.
  • Then in the file manager go to your home folder, show hidden files, delete or move your old ~/.gimp-2.8 configuration folder out of the way, and replace with the new one.
  • Then load GIMP.

Apply GIMP 2.9+ Photoshop Tweaks

Since GIMP 2.9+, the configuration folder has moved into ~/.config/GIMP/{version number} like ~/.config/GIMP/2.9.
To apply this tweaks to GIMP v2.9+, just simply copy the extracted folder .gimp-2.8 into ~/.config/GIMP//code> then rename it as 2.9
